5 MOST COMMON MISTAKES WHEN HAND WASHING YOUR CAR

Wondering why your car never looks quite as good as when you pay someone to do it?
Here are 5 reasons you aren’t getting the best results:

1 – NOT USING THE PROPER CLOTHS

The use of something convenient like a hand towel or tea towel isn’t necessarily what is best for your car. The wrong cloth or sponge can scratch and push dirt around, as the fibres aren’t absorbent enough with small dirt particles.
It’s better to part with a couple of pounds for a proper microfibre cloth or sponge that collects the dirt instead of spreading it. Try our Microfibre Wash Mitt for best results.

2 – NOT WASHING TOP TO BOTTOM

The wheels are the dirtiest part of the car. Washing them first would get more dirt on your cloth and in your clean water (if you are using only one bucket). This means the rest of your car will suffer a less than average clean. As well as this, washing top to bottom means dirty water isn’t running down onto the wheels you have just washed.

3 – NOT USING THE RIGHT DETERGENT

Using the wrong detergent can cause damage to the vehicle exterior. Using a pH neutral detergent will prevent damage to paintwork. Products such as Wash ‘n’ Wax and Car Shampoo are specially formulated to be fast and efficient cleaners, while being safe enough for all paintwork types. Always rinse your vehicle with lots of clean water.

4 – ONLY USING ONE CLOTH

It is important to use different cloths for different areas of your car. Not only does this stop product being smeared onto the wrong surface (such as wax on windows) but it also gives a cleaner finish as less dirt is retained on the cloths.

5 – WASHING IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT

Washing your car in direct sunlight can cause product and water to evaporate fast, causing smears and water/soap spots, making the whole wash pointless. For a really sparkling finish try to wash your car early morning or dusk when the sunlight, and therefore heat, is low.
